Lockdown: No Problem

Writer: MartinMartin

So with the country on lockdown and gyms shut for the foreseeable future, the lifestyle for many has changed dramatically.

Whether you go to the gym once a week or 5 times a week, this has had an effect. Yes, we can go walking, running and cycling but this isn't easy for everyone to do, especially if you are still trying to work from home or have a young family (like me).

There are 2 areas in which we must focus on, our physical health and our mental health. Both are as important as each other.

Physical Health:

There has been a major link between obesity and the risk of becoming seriously affected by Covid-19.

The government are now saying those who are obese could be made to self isolate for longer than others due to the risks it carries. We know obesity is a major concern in this country alone, and has been long before this pandemic arrived. Now should not be wake up call people needed to take action, but here we are.

By improving our physical health, we improve our immune system and our vital organs. We put less demand on our heart and lungs (big one right now) and a lot less therefore stress on the NHS.

Mental Health:

Being on lockdown for 2 months now will and most likely has had a massive effect on people's mental health.

When we exercise, we release endorphins which is a natural product the body makes. This will give us all a natural boost to our energy and mood.

A lot of us exercise due to stress as well. Exercise is the single most effective cure to stress relief long term. In these current circumstances, this is a major plus point. Let out your frustration on a variety of exercises and clear the mind.

You can still workout at home whilst on lockdown, you do NOT need the gym.

I'm sure many of you have seen workouts and exercises online and maybe even tried some of them. They are not for everyone. This is because they are targeted for mass population, trying to hit as many people as they can under one blanket.

Online Personal Training and Tailored Group Online Workouts are designed for you.

Online Personal Training:

This can be done as a 1-2-1, or as a 2-2-1. You do not need any equipment, and can train in a very limited amount of space. With my clients, some have dug out equipment they didn't know they had or never knew how to use, but we have put them into our workouts every week to provide an extra element to their training. If they do not have any equipment, they still get an amazing workout because using certain items you already have in the house (a dining room chair for example) can be an incredible tool for a good Personal Trainer.

Tailored Group Online Workouts:

I am providing workouts for corporate staff who are on furlough and for those who are working from home. Traditionally, this is done on Zoom. This keep staff morale up within the team, and maintains their physical and mental health. Every business if possible should be looking into this option.

I am also providing free weekly workouts on Facebook Live. Here is the link to the next event:

Anyone is welcome, however we target certain muscle groups each week and if you have any questions you can contact me directly. The workouts save, and therefore can be repeated another time.

With this pandemic, many normal things in our lives will change and I truly believe going to the gym for many will be one of them. You have everything you need right now. It is just knowing how to use it to suit your ability and to tailor the workouts to your health and fitness goals.
